About the Biocides Consultative Committee
The Biocides Consultative Committee is an independent body constituted to advise the UK competent authority (CA) on scientific and other associated issues in relation to the Biocidal Products Directive (BPD), the Biocidal Products Regulations (BPR) [2001] and other general issues related to biocides, in particular:
The UK CA’s negotiating position at meetings of the EU Standing Committee on Biocides for:
- the review of existing active substances in accordance with the review programme under the BPD,
- the assessment of new active substances.
The authorisation and registration of biocidal products (specifically on compliance with Annex VI and associated guidance on the BPD) and their review in the light of new information.
Specific advice to the CA and others on issues related to biocides such as:
- questions of scope e.g. the interface between plant protection products and biocides,
- overlapping product types e.g. disinfectants, wood preservatives,
- data protection, confidentiality, data sharing and appeals,
Representing the BCC to Ministers and the world at large.
