Biocides Consultative Committee: Agenda

The 1st meeting of the Biocides Consultative Committee will be held on Wednesday 26 October 2001, at 10.30 a.m. in the Fortune Room, Health and Safety Executive, Rose Court, Southwark Bridge, London.

Terms of Reference of the Committee BCC6 (1/01)
Members are asked to consider and agree the current Terms of Reference, which will be tabled.

Composition of the Committee BCC1 (1/01)
A list of Members and their areas of expertise is provided. Members are asked to consider whether the committee requires expertise in areas additional to those currently covered.

Code of Practice for Members BCC2 (1/01)
Members are asked to consider the Codes of Practice for Members of government advisory committees issued by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Health and Safety Commission (HSC). Discussions will centre on their application to BCC Members. In particular, the criteria and procedure for declaring interests will be highlighted.

Openness BCC3 (1/01)
Members are asked to consider and agree action to be taken to ensure the transparency of the BCC’s deliberations, such as:

  • the need for a website or page
  • disclosure of full or summary minutes
  • Production of Annual Reports
  • Open Meetings

Role of the interdepartmental committee BCC4 (1/01)
Representatives of the government departments with an interest in biocides will attend the meeting. The operation of the interdepartmental committee and its relationship to the BCC will be discussed

Example review of an active substance used in biocidal products BCC5 (1/01)
A recent review carried out under current UK legislation will be provided to Members and discussed, highlighting the data evaluated, the main issues of concern and the risk assessment process for people and the environment. The conclusions drawn and consequences will be explained, together with the likely differences between this review and future EU reviews of biocides. Members may wish to raise specific points for clarification and/or discussion.

New expenses code
The new guidance on claiming expenses will be distributed to Members and any issues relating to this will be discussed.

Agenda & dates for future meetings
The secretariat will propose possible dates for future meetings with a view to finalising these. Members may wish to nominate items for future meetings.
