Jane Willis

Jane Willis joined the Civil Service in 1973.  Much of her career has been with HSE, working in a variety of policy, corporate and strategic areas including international liaison, major hazards, finance, human resource development, and HSE’s Secretariat.  She was promoted to the Senior Civil Service in 1998. 

From 1998 to 2002 she was HSE’s Head of General and Technical Safety Policy.  She chaired the Health and Safety Commission’s Adventure Activities Industry Advisory Committee and was HSE’s nominee on the Board of Trustees for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.   She also represented HSE on the Fire Safety Advisory Board and the Dept of Health’s Accidental Injury Task Force.

In 2002 she took up post as HSE’s Head of Planning Efficiency and Finance leading work on managing HSE’s resources following the 2002 Spending Review.

In December 2003 Jane became a Policy Director, responsible (with a fellow Director) for leading HSE’s 250 strong Policy Group.  In October 2004, she became Strategic Programme Director responsible for the Fit for Work, Fit for Life, Fit for Tomorrow (Fit3) Programme aimed at delivering HSE’s targets for reducing ill-health, injuries and days lost due to work activities.
 
She is also a member of HSE’s Senior Management Board and leads for HSE on the cross-Department Health, Work and Wellbeing Executive.
