Peter McNaught

Peter McNaught is a barrister and the Director of Legal and Governance at the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) which is the main regulator for health and safety in Great Britain. Peter graduated in Law at Birmingham University before being called to the Bar at Middle Temple in 1982. After pupillage in Manchester he started prosecuting and joined the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) when it was formed in 1986. He performed a number of roles prosecuting a wide range of crime in the CPS until joining the HSE in 2008 as Head of Enforcement. In 2010 he was appointed as the Chief Legal Adviser and now advises HSE on all legal aspects of its work. This includes oversight of all its prosecutions, drafting of new regulations, and advice on policy and corporate issues. He is Secretary to the HSE Board and Management Board.
