Danny Carrigan

Danny Carrigan began his working life as an electrician and safety representative in shipbuilding, construction, offshore oil and public services. At the age of 28 he left work to undertake full-time education graduating with an honours degree in economic history from the University of Strathclyde in 1980.

Thereafter he served for around 25 years as a trade union officer, eventually becoming Scottish Regional Secretary and then Assistant General Secretary for the manufacturing union Amicus.

He was a member of the TUC and STUC General Councils.

Danny became Chair of the HSE’s Partnership for Health and Safety for Scotland (PHASS) committee in 2007 and was awarded an OBE in 2008 for his services to health and safety

He is also a Labour councillor with North Lanarkshire council.

His appointment commenced on 1 October 2004.
