Site-specific limitations and statements of competence

AALS Inspector Guidance Note - IGN 5.07 (was C/Int 29)

  • Version No & date: 2: 27/01/2010
  • Review date: 01/2013

Issue:  AALS regularly require Technical Advisors to ratify the competence of named persons to do named activities.  By necessity, these will commonly be “site specific” statements and are generally referred to as “Statements of Competence”.

  1. Providers should keep a record of these statements as these, and not their licence, would be their evidence that the right person was in charge of the session.
  2. Many centres find it convenient to keep a “Staff Competence Register”.  In addition there is often benefit in having a single matrix or file which shows who can do what.  This generally contains copies of NGB and similar external awards, Statements of Competence from Technical Advisors and other records of internal induction, further training and experience, assessments and records of monitoring.
