Sir,
Your reporter Jo Willey (‘when Britain was free of health and Safety fanatics; 5 April 2006) forgot to mention that in the 1960s over 1,200 people each year were killed at work. Last year’s figure, 220 was an even smaller proportion of an even bigger workforce.
You may think health and safety is a laughing matter. I call the increased protection of people at work progress and the hallmark of a civilised society.
