Warehouse safety event for local businesses
A free safety workshop is being offered to businesses in Gloucestershire to help combat health and safety issues in warehouses.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE), Tewkesbury Borough Council and Gloucester City Council are joining forces to hold the event on 20 October 2009 at Duraflex Limited, Tewkesbury Park Business Park, Gloucestershire.
The workshop will cover a range of issues, including: putting a stop to accidents caused by vehicles in the workplace; working at height; and moving and falling objects. Two sessions will run from 8.45am to 12.30pm and from 12.45pm to 4.30pm.
In 2006/7 there were 1817 storage and warehousing industry work-related accidents reported in the U.K.
The workshop will include talks from health and safety inspectors and demonstrations in the workplace showing mechanical handling equipment and racking safety. There will also be presentations from experts in the field of warehouse safety and the opportunity to share best practice with similar businesses.
Nigel Long, HSE Principal Inspector, said: "I hope that warehousing businesses will attend this event. It is an excellent way to hear from experts about how to reduce the risk of accidents at their premises. It makes good sense to tackle these risks, which can have serious consequences for workers as well as disrupt business."
