The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and larger players in the construction industry are joining together in Doncaster next month as part of the Working Well Together campaign, to drive home some life-saving messages about health and safety to smaller building, or contracting, companies and self-employed workers.
Construction, with 2.2 million workers, is Britain’s biggest industry but also one of its most dangerous. This is why industry partners have joined with HSE to arrange a free Construction Safety, Health and Awareness Day to highlight key issues and give practical advice on how to avoid risks on construction sites.
On Wednesday, 14 November, at the Dome Leisure Centre, Doncaster Lakeside, Bawtry Road, separate morning and afternoon sessions (starting at 8.45 am and 12.45pm) will give local workers and managers access to up-to-the-minute advice on working at height, manual handling, personal protective equipment, risk assessment and health and lifestyle issues.

HSE Inspector Medani Close, who has helped to organise the event says:
“In Yorkshire and Humber alone there were 368 people killed or injured in 2005-6. These are not just statistics – behind each figure is a personal tragedy.” (more/…) “Through the Working Well Together campaign the construction industry is attempting to address these issues head on and to help everyone in the industry, large and small, to put safety at the top of the agenda. The event being staged in Doncaster is aimed at some harder-to-reach parts of the workforce and its impact should be considerable.”
