Patrick McDonald has taken up post as the Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE) Chief Scientist, he replaces Dr Paul Davies who recently retired. Patrick joins HSE from the Department for Trade and Industry where he was the Technology Director.
Welcoming Patrick to his new role, HSE Chief Executive Geoffrey Podger said, “I look forward to working closely with Patrick and sure he will enjoy the challenging role. Science and research is an important part of what HSE does, it supports our guidance and helps shape many of HSE’s policies and programmes.”
Patrick has a degree in chemistry and has previously worked for the Atomic Energy Authority on Fast Breeder Reactors and as a forensic scientist for the Metropolitan Police Force and the Laboratory of Government Chemistry.
He joined the DTI as a technical expert and most recently was responsible for the £360m national technology strategic programme.
