Examination

The main conditions can present a variety of symptoms.

A study by Harington et al (Harrington JM, Carter JT, Birrell I, Gompertz D . Surveillance case definitions for work related upper limb pain syndromes. Occup Environ med 1998;55:264-271) explored the consensus of agreement of professionals responsible for assessing upper limb disorders to establish case definitions for several common work related upper limb pain syndromes. The results showed considerable agreement was possible although not surprisingly there was a wide range in the percentage of practitioners who attached each symptom or sign to each of the conditions.

Inspection palpation and percussion will elicit signs of erythaema, warmth, swelling, crepitus, neurological deficit, and reduced grip strength, pain on resisted movement and through passive stretching or usage and loss range of movement or function.
