It should be remembered that in the majority of cases, people living with back pain can continue with normal activities including work. Some cases are caused or aggravated by work.
Health professionals play an important role in assessing symptoms and signs and encouraging sufferers to maintain normal activities. You can influence improvements in the working conditions.
Aims
To enhance health practitioner awareness on back pain leading to a positive effect on patients' beliefs and clinical outcomes.
What the evidence shows:
- A key point is that it is important for patients to stay active and return to ordinary activities, including suitable work, as early as possible;
- Evidence based clinical guidelines have been produced by various bodies across Europe.
- The Back Book aims to help sufferers and advise employers. Often supplied to patients by doctors and therapists, it offers evidence-based advice on coping with back pain and leading a normal life. It sets out to clarify the beliefs about back pain and can have a positive influence on health and vocational outcomes.
