The LAU aim to provide the best possible access to information for Local Authorities and associated organisations. This will be developed further as a priority under HSC's new 'LAs and HSE Working Together' strategic programme.

This section contains details of organisations concerned with health and safety and related areas and is intended to be a basic reference source of on-line advice and information.

• LAU/HELA Closed Site
  The LAU/HELA Closed site contains the current years LA Prosecution Pack, HSE Enforcement Handbook for Scotland and the list of registered LAPS partners. This site is password protected and is for the use of authorised personnel only.

• HELA Training Co-ordination
  The HELA Training Co-Ord website was constructed to provide a central focus for the co-ordination of health and safety training activities. It has been expanded to enable collection and collation of LAs topic-based inspection data. This is a password-protected site that is also available only to authorised serving LA enforcement officers.

  Contains a complete list of LACs categorised by subject matter.

  Website of the Local Authorities Coordinators of Regulatory Services.

• LGA
  Link to the Local Government Association home page containing news, events and publications for Local Authorities. The LGA represents LAs in England.

• WLGA
  Website for the Welsh Local Government Association

• CoSLA
  Direct link to the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities home page.

• CIEH
  Link to the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health main site, the professional body representing environmental health practitioners in England and Wales (see also REHIS).

• Statistics
  This is the UK's home of official statistics, reflecting Britain's economy, population and society at national and local level. Summary stories and detailed data releases are published here free of charge.

• Central Government
  Link to the Cabinet Office main site containing information on central government initiatives and how they relate to Local Authorities.

• Trading Standards
  This site provides a wealth of information for consumers and businesses, schools, advice and information centres, community organisations, local councils, business support agencies and trade associations. The site for comsumer protection information in the UK.

• FSA
  Link to the Food Standards Agency homepage. The FSA is an independent food safety watchdog set up by an Act of Parliament in 2000 to protect the public's health and consumer interests in relation to food.

  Containing a complete register of companies in the UK including comprehensive statistics and annual reports.

• UK Government Website Directory
  Complete A-Z of Local Authorities and links to all Central Government websites.

• Audit Commission
  The Audit Commission is an independent body responsible for ensuring that public money is used economically, efficiently and effectively. Includes information on auditing of LAs.

• Info4local
  This site provides the first 'one-stop' portal for local authorities and practitioners to get quick and easy access to information they need on the web sites of central government departments, agencies and public bodies. Provides targeted information, subscription free.

• IOSH
  IOSH (Institute of Occupational Safety and Health) is Europe's leading body for health and safety professionals, represents 27,000 members in over 50 countries. An independent, not-for-profit organisation, the Institute regulates and steers the health and safety profession, maintaining standards and providing impartial, authoritative guidance on health and safety issues.

• REHIS
  Link to the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland. The professional body representing environmental health practitioners in Scotland.

• RoSPA
  The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents is a registered charity, providing information, advice.

• Workplace Health Connect
  Workplace Health Connect is a free no obligation service set up in partnership with the Health and Safety Executive.
