Petrol filling stations - Guidance on managing the risks from fire and explosion

The West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service have recently produced guidance concerning managing the fire and explosion risks at petrol filling stations. The guidance has been reviewed by the Health and Safety Executive / Local Authority Enforcement Liaison Committee's Petroleum Enforcement Liaison Group. This includes representatives of the retail petroleum industry, the petroleum licensing authorities, the Local Authorities Coordinators for Regulatory Services (LACORS) and HSE.

The Petroleum Enforcement Liaison Group believes that the guidance represents the best practice available at this time.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service intend to keep the guidance under review and it will be updated as and when necessary.

The guidance is web-based and can be accessed through the following link:

The guidance is comprehensive and will be useful to petroleum enforcement officers and petrol filling station operators. It is primarily intended for use as a reference document, to be dipped in and out of when necessary.
