Information on publications and websites that provide further information on the health and safety of young people at work, work experience and work-based learning is given below. HSE cannot vouch for the accuracy or currency of this material.
Young people
Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH)
has developed a Wiseup2work resource for young people and teachers. This is a unique information and activity hub for the under 21s, teachers, training providers, youth workers and employers. Anyone working with young people can use the activities on this site as part of induction training, work experience preparation or classroom lessons.
Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA)
have a website dedicated to young workers and the employers of young workers.
British Safety Council (BSC)
is paying for all 14-19 year olds in full-time education in the UK to gain a nationally recognised qualification in health and safety. The BSC offers the Entry Level Award in Workplace Hazard Awareness and the Level 1 Certificate in Health and Safety at Work, both of which are accredited in the National Qualifications Framework.
Trades Union Congress (TUC)
has produced:

in partnership with the LSC
Hazards Magazine
website contains articles on serious accidents to young workers and links to other resources.
Scottish Centre for Healthy Working Lives
provides a free and confidential occupational health and safety service health and safety service for small and medium sized enterprises in Scotland.
Work experience
Learning and Skills Council (LSC)
produces a range of guidance material covering various aspects of work experience.
Their safe learner website is intended as a one-stop shop for health and safety information related to the delivery of programmes for the Learning and Skills Council. It has a ‘whistle blowing’ hotline for learners who have tried unsuccessfully to resolve concerns about their health and safety with the trainer or employer.
