ONR Research
ONR does not undertake its own research and development. Instead contracts are placed with specialist providers, or support is given to research and development undertaken by other organisations, both in the UK and overseas. ONR commissions research in the following areas:
- Existing nuclear power reactors, including aging and degradation
- Nuclear chemical plants
- Nuclear plant decommissioning, and
- Geological disposal of radioactive wastes
ONR engages with international organisations and overseas regulators and supports international research projects.
ONR is in the process of reviewing its approach to research and development and is developing its strategy in order to meet future challenges.
