Industry good practice

Noise control campaign (2007-2008)

During 2007-8 HSE inspectors addressed noise issues in three priority industry sectors: plastics, woodworking, and concrete/cement. They expected to find evidence of reduction of noise risks to the lowest level that is reasonably practicable. Wherever noise risks remained, inspectors looked for evidence that the risks were being managed adequately, and that suitable hearing protection and health surveillance was in place.

Follow the industry links below for information on established good practice for managing noise risks.

Each industry page includes:

  • Information on established noise control methods for particular high noise activities and processes. In HSE’s experience these are reasonably practicable in many circumstances.
  • Information on general management of noise risks
  • Links to further information & case studies

If you have additional examples of good practice to control risks from noise, we would like to hear from you.
