HSE and the Government setting an example programme

There are three main groups working on the Government Setting an Example programme, to support the public sector in improving their health and safety management.

Programme Management Team

Within HSE, the Programme Management Team works to focus our activities on achieving our vision - to establish the public sector's management of health and safety as the standard that all employers in the UK should aim to match. Policy and operations staff jointly manage the GSE Programme. Other priority programme teams, such as stress and MSDs, also give support to the programme's aims.

Ministerial Taskforce

A Ministerial Taskforce comprising ministers and officials from Cabinet Office, Treasury, and key targeted departments is being established to look at improving sickness absence in the public sector and setting an example that others can follow.

Programme Board

A Programme Board provides the programme with strategic direction and ensures that the key messages are communicated. The Board is purely an executive and decision-making body and not representative of particular interests. Members are from the Council of Civil Service Unions, National Audit Office, local government, Cabinet Office, Treasury, Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, the Chartered Institute of Personal Development, and the Department of Work and Pensions.
