In 2009/10 the overall injury rate (i.e. combined 'O-3-D absence' and 'major' injuries) for food and drink manufacture was 1404 injuries/100,000 workers. This rate is among the higher manufacturing injury rates.
The average for all GB manufacturing industries (including engineering, plastics, woodworking, printing etc.) was 772 injuries/100,000 workers. So food manufacture currently has an injury rate around 1.8 times higher than the GB manufacturing average, a reduction from 2.3 times in 1990/91.
In 2009/10 a quarter (26%) of all manufacturing injuries occurred in the food and drink industries.
