Health and Safety Executive

Commercial landlord

We want to train and support business owners who occupy your premises to:

  • make their businesses happier, healthier and safer for their employees
  • increase their profitability/help them and stay in business
  • achieve the Estates Excellence Mark.

You can help us – here’s how:

About 5-6 months before we talk to the businesses occupying your premises, we will contact you to:

  • introduce ourselves
  • establish how we can best work with you and the systems you have in place, such as communication with tenants
  • help you identify your key risks
  • help you ensure that you have systems in place to control the risks.

Wherever possible, we will establish best practice and, with your agreement, share it with other landlords on your site and people working for you, such as security staff.

Visiting businesses

To ensure standards improve and to reduce the incidence of accidents and ill health, we will visit the businesses on your estate. The aim of the visit is to help the owners manage their risks. With the owner’s consent, we will walk round their site with them for about 10 minutes to help us understand their risks and then discuss those the owner thinks are important to their business.

We want to support the businesses based on the risks we identify on site. To do this we want to work with you. For instance, we’d like your help with holding the training sessions on site and with finding a place to park our occupational health caravan.

To ensure that the education, training and knowledge continue to benefit businesses on your estate, we’d like to help create and support a network for your business community, which – for example – provides or coordinates:

  • written advice
  • free/low cost occupational health surveillance
  • educational events
  • sharing services
  • combining resources for economies of scale
  • or a mixture of all these.

Estates Excellence will provide a web-based community for your estate - a place where you can post best practice, share services, arrange meetings and get support.

Contact us now to find how you can help us improve health and safety in your commercial properties.
