Non-agricultural pesticides approved under: The Control of Pesticides Regulations 1986 (as amended)

Introduction

This webpage provides links to databases/lists of non-agricultural pesticides products that are currently approved via HSE and products that have had their approval withdrawn, revoked, suspended or voided.

You will also be able to determine which products you can use with the following definitions for an amateur, professional and industrial user:

  • Amateur - means that the product can be used by the general public;
  • Professional - means that the product can only be used by people who are required to use pesticides as part of their work and who have received appropriate information, instruction and training;
  • Industrial - means that the product is a wood preservative/treatment that can only be used for industrial pre-treatment of wood by operatives who have received appropriate information, instruction and training.

Approval Databases/Lists

This searchable database contains basic information on current products registered with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) as antifouling products, aquatic algicides & molluscicides, biocidal paints, bird stupefying baits, insect repellents, insecticides (including insecticidal paints), rodenticides, surface biocides, vertebrate repellents, wood preservatives and wood treatments. Searches of this database can be performed by

  • product type;
  • HSE number;
  • active ingredient name (by either typing it in or selecting it from the list provided);
  • product name;
  • marketing company;
  • user type;
  • or a combination of the above.

This searchable database contains information on products that been registered with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) as antifouling products, aquatic algicides & molluscicides, biocidal paints, bird stupefying baits, insect repellents, insecticides (including insecticidal paints), rodenticides, surface biocides, vertebrate repellents, wood preservatives and wood treatments, but have had the approvals withdrawn, revoked, suspended or voided. Please note that this database only contains products that are still going through the process of being withdrawn, revoked etc and therefore could possibly still be used, the relevant expiry dates are list for each product. In the future this database will also include all withdrawn, revoked, suspended and void products where the expiry deadlines have passed. Searches of this database can be performed by

  • product type;
  • HSE number;
  • active ingredient name (by either typing it in or selecting it from the list provided);
  • product name;
  • or a combination of the above.

Amendment, expiry, suspension and revocation of approvals

Pesticide approvals may at any time be subject to review, amendment, suspension or revocation. Revocation of approval may occur for a number of reasons, for example the identification of safety concerns or an approval holder's failure to meet a data submission deadline. Where possible a "phased revocation'' will be implemented, but when safety considerations make it necessary immediate revocation may take effect. On expiry or revocation of approvals it becomes unlawful to advertise, sell, supply, store or use the products for the uses concerned.

Suspension of approval may take place when it is anticipated that the action is temporary, e.g. where approval might be reinstated by the provision of required and satisfactory data.
