Feedback on the migrant workers pocket card produced by the casual, temporary and migrant working project group
During a recent research study of migrant workers in the construction industry, 8-10 focus groups comprised of migrants were shown the pocket card.
The universal response was excellent. In particular, they:
- liked the tone - which they felt was well judged, authoritative, neutral and credible
- strongly approved of the content - being especially interested in the guidance on PPE, welfare facilities and the employer and their own responsibilities (of which they were wholly unaware)
- liked the multiplicity of languages - and asked for more
- really liked the idea that someone (HSE) cared - and was able and willing to do something - about their health, safety and welfare;
The focus groups also provided clear feedback on how to improve it and how to access migrant working communities.
The employer focus groups involved were also very positive about it when it was shown to them.
