The Committee:
- noted trends in accidents and ill health in the coal mining industry
- noted that early indications showed the Regulations were being successfully introduced across the industry
- discussed proposed change to the law to allow HSE to grant exemptions for remaining provisions of the M&Q Act that did not currently allow for exemption
- received a report from the Mines Rescue Service
- reviewed consultation process for the reissue of BS EN 60079-19 and other standards
- noted work carried out across industry to reassess all manriding installations in shafts in line with ALARP principles
- Standing Committees’ Report – Occupational Health in Mines paper accepted
- reviewed the current position in the development of mines supervisors qualifications for coal and non-coal mines
- noted that the reconstitution process had been completed for MIC and consideration would be given to reconstitution of the MQB as a standing committee of MIC
- noted the internal recruitment process currently being undertaken for HM Inspectors of Mines and Engineering
- noted impending change of Chairmanship and retirement of current Chairman
